QUEENSLAND 

McKenzie Aged Care required two new aged care facilities in Queensland – one in Taigum and the second in Bridgeman Downs. 

 

The Taigum project was to be built on 9085 sqm of land. The three storey building included an underground basement for parking and back of house facilities. It comprised of 140 private bedrooms with private bathrooms and balconies. Typical residential levels also include multiple medical, nursing and wellness facilities as well as dining rooms, resident lounges, library and multipurpose activity spaces.

The design response was a contemporary facade with clean vertical lines and sections, the plan formation was inspired from courtyard houses. The residential wings surrounded the hub of acitivity and facilities, this allowed for ease of access and comfort for the residents.

 

The Bridgeman Downs project was located in one of Brisbane’s suburbs on 11094 sqm of land. This aged care facility comprised 143 private bedrooms with private bathrooms and balconies. The building complex responds to the sloping site with a combination of 2 and 3 storey sections. It includes an underground basement for parking and back of house facilities. Typical residential levels also include multiple medical, nursing and wellness facilities as well as dining rooms, resident lounges, library and multipurpose activity spaces with access to the outdoor courtyards and gardens.
